Culture Corner: Christmas in the UK

Now that Christmas is getting closer, let's explore how Christmas is celebrated in the UK! Are Christmas very different to how we celebrate it in Spain? Let's find out!

Here are some typical UK Christmas traditions:

Christmas Dinner: Families gather to eat roast turkey, stuffing and Christmas pudding.

Crackers: People give festive crackers during dinner, which contain small gifts, jokes and paper crowns.

Caroling: Groups sing traditional Christmas song like Jingle Bells and Silent Night.

Stockings: Children han stockings by the fireplace for Santa to fill with presents.

FUN FACT! Did you know that Santa Claus is often called Father Christmas in the UK?

Past Simple. How to use it?

Let's review what we worked on last week in class: the ‘Past Simple’.

We can use Past Simple to talk about things we did in the past.

How to use it?

  • Regular verbs → the past simple ending is -ed, for example:
         walk - walked
         play - played
         like - liked

  • Irregular verbs → there is a special past simple form, for example:
         go - went
         have - had
         make - made
         see - saw

  • Negatives We use didn't + verb, but don't change the verb to the past form. For example:
          I didn't like the food.
         We didn't see elephants.

Now, let's practice! 😎
